Thanks for trying the demo of the Retro AS-1, a software analog synthesizer for your Macintosh. We hope you love the Retro AS-1 as much as we enjoyed developing it! Please forward comments and suggestions to us at info@bitheadz.com.
ProTools and VST users please read the comments below!!!!!! Really!
Installation
1. Turn off AppleTalk and reboot if necessary.
2. Close all other applications.
3. Run this installer.
4. At the end of the installation, the 'Retro AS-1 Authorizer' application will run. To upgrade your demo to a full version of Retro AS-1, you first need to contact BitHeadz for a registration number. Enter your registration number and press 'Register'. Once you have the correct response code from BitHeadz for your registration and challenge, enter it now and press 'Authorize'. You are now authorized for the complete version of Retro AS-1.
5. That's it! Read the included release notes and pdf documentation.
OMS Users
OMS users need to run the utility 'Retro AS-1 OMS Publish' in the 'OMS' subfolder of the 'Utilities' folder. Run after you have configured your studio with the Opcode application 'OMS Setup'. The publish utility allows OMS applications to receive the Retro AS-1 bank and program names correctly.
FreeMIDI Users
The installer installs the 'Retro AS-1' file in the 'Default Names' folder of the 'FreeMIDI Folder' in your System folder. This file provides the default bank and program names to FreeMIDI. If you change the installed programs, you should update this text file with the 'Retro AS-1 FreeMIDI Names' utility provided in the 'AS-1 Utilities' folder Alternatively, you can dynamically update the bank and program names by deleting the installed 'Retro AS-1' file in the 'Default Names' folder, and checking 'Publish FreeMIDI Names' in the Retro AS-1 control panel.
ProTools & ProTools LE Users
There are now two ways of connecting the audio output from Retro AS-1 to ProTools, DirectConnect and RTAS. To use DirectConnect, place the 'Retro AS-1 DC' plug-in in the 'Plug-Ins' folder of the 'DAE Folder' in your 'System Folder'. You must also change the 'Retro AS-1' control panel audio IO to 'DirectConnect'.
To use RTAS, place the 'Retro AS-1 RTAS' plug-in in the same 'Plug-Ins' folder of the 'DAE Folder' in your 'System Folder', and select 'Plug-in' for the 'Retro AS-1' control panel audio IO.
Make sure you understand which plug-in you have copied to the 'Plug-Ins' folder and set the 'Retro AS-1' control panel accordingly.
VST Users
Copy the 'Retro AS-1 VST' plug-in from the 'AS-1 Utilities' folder to the 'VstPlugIns' folder of your 'Cubase' folder. Then change the 'Retro AS-1' control panel audio IO to 'Plug-in'.
Selecting from the VST program menus inside Cubase takes a very long time with the default factory install of 1400+ Retro AS-1 programs. We suggest that you leave just the programs you need inside your 'Retro AS-1 Programs' folder of your 'Retro AS-1 2.1 Folder'. For starters, try leaving just the first 128 programs (the 'best of' programs). Note that once you have created the Retro AS-1 VST instance, you can press the VST 'Edit' button to bring up an editor where you can increment and decrement through the programs quickly.
Demo Version Limitations
The demo version is limited in that it is authorized for one month only, can be used for only twenty launches, and that the save and record to disk are disabled. You can use all of the functionality for the demo period except for the file save and record to disk. You must use the 'Retro AS-1 Authorizer' application to register the software and get a response code for complete authorization, but only after you have contacted BitHeadz for a registration number.
